*Sighs & shakes head* Cinderella...

Have you ever thought about certain impracticalities in fairy tales? Don't ask me why, but I do it on a regular basis. I was actually just thinking of the seemingly flawless Cinderella in this light the other day. Here are my thoughts:

1: So Cinderella loses her mother at an seemingly early age. Her (apparently wealthy) father remarries to this overbearing woman who has some, unexplained hatred for Cinderella. (Poor girl!!) She also has two step-sisters who are repeatedly cruel to her (Cinderella). Then her father dies, the only family she had left. She is then made to be a servant in her own home by her step-mother. Doesn't it sound like, after all that, that she would have some serious psychological baggage? Maybe that's why she talks to the mice...;)

2: The prince: Cinderella sneaks out the ball, and meets the prince. After one night of knowing each other, they get married.
Is there something wrong with this picture?

3: Glass shoes. How very practical. Especially for dancing.

And I'm not even going to start on the pumpkin.

Now, I know that they're only fairy-tales, and they're supposed to be "magical"(And I love them!), but sometimes it's interesting to put a practical light over them.

Mary Sue & Gary Stu list!!

Wow, am I bored or what? Just kidding. I'm making a list of Mary Sues and Gary Stu's that I've found in various books and movies.
For those of you who don't know, a Mary Sue is a female character found all too often in stories. She is beautiful, generally has "special abilities", is extremely virtuous, and at least one canon character falls in love with her. Gary Stu is her lesser-known cousin, who posses several of the same qualities put into manly form. Rich, handsome , strong, whatever. Prince Charming. So, without further ado, here is my list.

Mary Sues

------------
1.Arya (Eragon)
2.Christine Daae (Phantom of the Opera)
3.Katrina (Eragon)
4.Princess Leia (Star Wars)
5.Jane Bennet Bingley (Pride & Prejudice)
6.Belle (Beauty & the Beast)
7.Susan Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia)
8.Ramandu's Daughter (Chronicles of Narnia)
9.Arwen (Lord of the Rings; perhaps the biggest Mary Sue of all...)
10.Jazelle (Enchanted)
11.Dianna Berry (Anne of Green Gables)
12.Lady Dasha (River Secrets)
13. Cinderella (uh, Cinderella)

Gary Stu's
------------
1.Raoul (Phantom of the Opera)
2.Peter Pevensie (Chronicles of Narnia)
3.King Tirian (Chronicles of Narnia)
4.Roran Stronghammer (Eragon)
5.Qui Gon Jen(I don't know how to spell his name!!) (Star Wars)
6.Obi Wan (Star Wars)

7.Arthur Denniston (Shadow of the Bear)
8.Finn (Enna Burning)
9.Prince/ King Geric (Goose Girl)
10. Luke Skywalker (Star Wars)
11.Prince Gwydion (Chronicles of Prydain)

12. Aragorn (Lord of the Rings; probably the one of the biggest Gary Stu's of all. No wonder he and Arwen ended up together...)
13.Prince Charming (duh...)

Wow, that felt good to acknowledge that. If you disagree with any of my choices, or have one of your own to add, please feel free to comment on it on the comment board!!
(Just so you know, I'll probably be adding more on the comment board...;)
